Sejal comes from a Gujarati settler family, grew up in Surrey BC, and now lives in Nanaimo, on the territories of the Snuneymuxw First Nation. She completed her bachelors degree in Geography (Environment & Sustainability stream), with a focus on natural resource management and Indigenous sovereignty.

Sejal has worked for several years supporting community-driven research and stewardship engagement for communities and organizations across Canada. She has supported Indigenous knowledge, occupancy, and use studies; cumulative effects studies; title and rights research; ethnographic and archival research; and participatory digital mapping. Her favourite part of the work is when we get to meet together out on the lands and waters and learn from each other there. Sejal has a deep interest in cultivating respectful, reciprocal intercultural and intergenerational relationships between all peoples and the lands and waters.

Sejal is immensely grateful for the mentors and teachers she has had so far, all of whom come from a variety of areas of expertise. She counts among her mentors the late Dr Chin Banerjee, Dr John Littlejohn, Carla Chambers, the late Ustad Davinder Hundal, and Dr Molly Malone.
